Now that you’re shaken up, it’s time to shake things up …
It’s the day after the presidential election and millions of Christians across the country are feeling like the sky has fallen.
Blog posts, tweets and Facebook posts are urging Christians to refocus on putting their minds and hearts back on God.
Godly church leaders should be alarmed.
The pervasiveness of the demoralization felt among so many Christians is glaring evidence of just how grossly intertwined politics has become for so many Christians. For too many, they cannot tell their political opinions apart from their faith.
The church has had it’s eye off the ball and onto politics and culture for far too long. It isn’t simply time to “refocus” on what really matters, it’s time to repent and be the church!
And leaders need to take the lead.
It’s time to have the courage to make sure every person sitting in the pews has heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and has been urged to respond in faith with their lives.
It’s time leaders make disciples of everyone in their congregation.
It’s time leaders do their biblical duty of equipping the saints for works of service.
It’s time leaders preach the Good News of Jesus Christ rather than motivational messages that are culturally cute and politically correct.
It’s time disciples start making other disciples, and churches start planting other churches.
It’s time for churches to start sending out workers into the harvest.
It’s time for Christians to start sacrificing to finance the work of the kingdom.
It’s time to be truly compassionate with those in need and serve them and shower them with the love of Christ, and to do so without political judgment. Who cares how they got into their situation, just go love them and help them and share Christ with them!
It’s time everyone who claims to follow Christ starts taking up their own cross, denying themselves, and actually follow Christ daily.
It’s time we get busy with our Father’s business!
Actually, we should have been doing these things all along! But now that it has become more clear to many that they cannot attain in our culture or our country what they want through political or other worldly means, maybe now we can get sober and serious about serving Jesus Christ.
Loss at the election polls isn’t a time for political regrouping, it’s a time to get our heads and hearts permanently back where they belong. It’s time for the church to shake out the politics from it’s thinking and replace it with genuine obedience to the Word of God.
It is time to change our communities, our towns, our cities, our great country the way we always should have been doing it — by preaching Christ, and Him crucified.
America will never be a godly nation again by what happens through any election. It can only be a godly nation by people knowing, loving and serving God! For that to happen, leaders will have to start leading with courage and do the work of God and not of men. Congregations will have to get out their pews and be Christ in their communities. Churches will have to be real churches.
Then, and only then, will we see this great nation become a country where God is again glorified by its people.
That hasn’t happened in a long time.
It’s time to change that. The right way.
