Too busy to live well …

Have you ever been so distracted by being busy that you were missing out on what is important in life?

Yeah, many (most?) of us live that way!

The problem is, we claim to be too busy to make any changes! Our attitudes are something like this:
sqwheelsLuke records the story of Jesus meeting a woman who was distracted by what kept her busy …

“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, ‘Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me,'” Luke 10:38-40.

Martha did a good thing by inviting Jesus into her home, but then she became so distracted with busyness that she was missing out on the value of having the Creator of all things sitting in her living room.

We do the same.

We invite Jesus into our lives as Lord and Savior and then miss out on the value of having Christ in us by allowing ourselves to be too busy for Jesus. Like Martha, we allow our attention to be lured away by the details of life rather than focused on the Author of it …

“But the Lord said to her, ‘My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her,'” Luke 10:41-42.

When it comes to what is important in life, Jesus heads the list. Does your life reflect that? If someone observed your life, would they think that Jesus Christ is your top priority and greatest concern? Or are you living a life where busyness distracts you from being at the feet of Jesus when you should be?
