COMMUNION MEDITATION: Steadfast love …

The longing of every human being is to be loved by someone, and to love someone, but to experience a love that is trustworthy and steadfast.

I stumbled across a story this morning that didn’t identify its source, but it’s about a man who seems taken with the pursuit of love, but not necessarily the steadfast type …

A Malaysian man, Kamaruddin Mohammed, has married 53 times! His shortest marriage lasted two days; his longest, 20 yrs. Mohammed says he is not a “playboy,” he just loves women. Nevertheless, he claims to be a “one woman man,” never having “flings” or marrying more than one woman at a time. After the death of his last wife, Mohammed went full circle and sought out Khadija Udin, his first wife, whom he married in 1957. He asked her to marry him again. She told reporters that she accepted his proposal because she was now old and alone. “Kamaruddin promised to look after me until the end of our lives and said he did not want to continue his habit of remarrying repeatedly.”

With his track record, would you take another chance with Kamaruddin?

Scripture tells us our Lord loves us with a steadfast love, faithful yet as fresh today as when He first loved us …

“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning,” Lamentations 3:22-23.

As we gather at the Lord’s Table, we have a reminder of the depth and steadfastness of Jesus’ love for us. A love so great He would willingly offer His body to be broken and His blood shed, freely laying down His life to save us from our sins. A faithful love that never ends, His mercies beginning afresh each morning.
