COMMUNION MEDITATION: God’s highlight reel of your life …

If you watch “highlight reels” of famous athletes, you might think they were greater at their sport than you remember!

John Reed tells a story about these video vignettes …

“The world of sports provides a beautiful picture of God’s grace. We see it when the sportscaster shows ‘highlight reels’ of our favorite athletes from years gone by. In the editing process, they extract the mistakes, the fumbles, the strike outs, the missed shots. Instead, every time Michael Jordan or Larry Bird shoot the ball, they make the basket. If all you knew about these legends was what you saw from a “highlight reel,” you’d think they never missed a shot!”

The good news is that God has has a “highlight reel” for each one of us, edited by His grace …

“Under the old covenant, the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day, offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins. But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand … Then he says, ‘I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds,'” Hebrews 10:11-12, 17.

When God reviews the highlights of our lives, He doesn’t see the sin that has stained our lives, it has been edited by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Now, through Christ, when God plays back our highlight reels, He see the holiness and righteousness of Jesus …

“For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time,” Hebrews 10:10.

As we gather to observe Communion, we’re reminded that it required the broken body and shed blood of Jesus Christ to permanently remove our sins so that God never remembers them again.
