If you think these angels had a great gig, check out the one God has for you!

Do you know anyone who, as a kid, dreamed of growing up to be a TV announcer?

How do you get a job like that?

I remember watching a game show a couple decades ago and the show’s announcer was introduced! The announcer was decked out in an expensive suit complete with bejewled jacket.

Apparently it’s a big thing to be an announcer in Hollywood!

Imagine, then, what it must be like to be one of heaven’s announcers.

Throughout human history, there have been few times when God assigned to an angel the gig of being heaven’s announcer. But we see multiple times in the Christmas story that an angel was assigned the task of announcing some remarkable news …

The angel Gabriel informed Zechariah that his wife, Elizabeth, would become pregnant in her old age and they would become parents of who we know as John the baptist (luke 1:5-25).

Gabriel would later visit Mary to explain to this virgin how she would become the mother of the Messiah (Luke 1:26-38).

An unidentified angel would also visit Joseph to explain Mary’s pregnancy and God’s plan for him and his fiance (Matthew 1:18-25).

And then one night God pointed to an angel, unidentified to us, and gave him the cue to announce the birth of Jesus, followed by the unstrained joy of heaven (Luke 2:8-15).

Imagine what it would be like to be a heavenly announcer … that’s quite a gig!

It’s something we don’t fully have to imagine because God has given every one of His children a similar job, a lifetime role of being His “mouthpiece” to unbelievers in the world. Yes, in a way, we get to announce Christ! Just take a look …

“And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!'” 2 Corinthians 5:18-20.

The previous examples of angels making announcements at that first Christmas was to herald the coming and arrival of Christ; we who are children of God have been assigned the task of announcing what God has accomplished through the gift of His Son long ago, and to plead, “Come back to God!”

We have Good News to announce on behalf of Christ!

No sparkly jacket needed.
