EVERY church should have a “Mental Health Coach/first responder.” Here’s how you can get trained and certified for FREE!
When people find themselves struggling with a mental health issue, or an actual mental illness, IF they reach for help beyond their families it is usually to their church leaders.
And that often freaks out their church leaders!
Not because they don’t care (in most cases), but because ministers are not educated, equipped, and properly skilled to provide care and treatment for clinical cases of mental health issues and mental illness.
BUT …
Given the FACT that ONE OUT OF FOUR Americans will experience a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year, and tether that to the fact that ministers are often “first responders” in such cases, it can easily be argued that EVERY CHURCH should have at least one person who is a trained, capable, and willing Mental Health Coach to serve as a competent “first responder” to people seeking help with mental health issues.
NOW YOU CAN TRAIN SOMEONE IN YOUR CHURCH FOR FREE!
To help churches have a well-trained person in their congregations who are competent and capable of being a “first responder” Mental Health Coach, the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) is offering, through its Light University division, FREE training and certification for its certified Mental Health Coach first responder training program.
More than 50,000 people are currently enrolled in the program, along with 25,000 participating churches. The AACC is offering FREE TUITION via FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS for the training program.
Whether you’re an ordained minister, church staff member, elder, deacon, or a member of your local church, YOU can be equipped and certified through this training program, which includes:
-
- 40–hour, biblically-based, clinically-excellent training program.
- Featuring some of the world’s leading mental health experts.
- On-Demand video lectures.
- Available 24/7/365.
- Study anywhere, anytime, at your own pace, on any of your favorite devices.
Imagine the difference — and the impact! — it could make in the lives of people if YOUR CHURCH had a well-trained, competent, capable, and willing person ready to be a first responder Mental Health Coach to the people in your local church and community!

A couple final notes. First, if you’re a church member and not a member of your church’s ministerial staff but you’re interested in taking this training and serving your church and community as a certified Mental Health Coach, then share the information about this training and your interest with your pastor, offering to serve in this capacity through your local church.
And church leaders, DON’T miss this terrific opportunity just because you don’t have the time to do it yourself — RECRUIT SOMEONE ELSE, whether it’s an elder, deacon, staff member, or a member of the congregation, there will be others who CAN do this, and do it well, especially with your support and encouragement.
Let’s equip the church to better serve those who are suffering with mental health issues.
