Dress for success as a child of God …

The secular world makes a big thing about what you wear.

Did you know God does, too?

Not in the same way the world does; human beings are consumed with draping themselves in the latest fashions in order to fit in, stand out, feel cool, or be accepted. God’s concern is how we clothe ourselves spiritually. And when it comes to that, He has supplied us with a resplendent wardrobe for our every need.

First, God outfits us with streetwear, the “clothes” we need for everyday living:

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience,” Colossians 3:12.

Those make for a great ensemble for our basic needs of living as ambassadors for Christ, but let me ask you this: If you were going to wander into a war zone, would you want something a little more that? Perhaps something that could help you withstand any attacks that might come your way?

The Bible tells us that, as Christians we daily find ourselves in a war zone — a spiritual war zone. Knowing that, God has added to our closet of streetwear some necessary pieces of armor to protect us while living in a war zone:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand,” Ephesians 6:10-13.

Better than the most advanced kevlar vests, Ephesians 6:14-18 describes the armor we need to safely stand our ground in a spiritual war zone: truth, righteousness, the peace we have in the Gospel, faith, your salvation, the Word of God, and prayer.

It’s this combination of streetwear and armor that God uses to dress us for success. So when you get up each day, what are wearing as you walk into a new day of life?
