What were you born for?

What were you born for?

While you let that question ruminate in the back of your mind for a moment, it’s at this point in “Holy Week” that the purpose for Jesus being born into the world He created is building to a great crescendo.

He had lived a perfect, sinless life.

He had used the entirety of His human life on Earth on in service and obedience to His Father, and the full cost and accomplishment of that would be realized in just a couple days.

There were no wasted days, or even wasted moments, in the life of Jesus. It was lived entirely to bring glory to the Father.

What were you born for?

The exact same thing Jesus was born for.

Well partly, but an important part! You won’t save humankind from sin. You personally cannot defeat death. You cannot destroy the works of the devil. But just as it was Jesus’ purpose to obey, serve, and do what pleases the Father, well that’s your purpose (and mine) for existing as well.

You won’t be perfect at this purpose, but through the power of the Holy Spirit in you, you can increasingly become more like Jesus, learning to more faithfully and fully pour out your life in service to God and His kingdom. And now that Jesus has carried out the part of the Father’s plan that only He could accomplish, you can pick up where He left off and be part of finishing the task of reconciling people to God:

“And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!'” 2 Corinthians 5:18-20.

“Carefully determine what pleases the Lord,” Ephesians 5:10.

“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those we are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do,” Ephesians 5:15-17.
