The best Christmas ever …

The story is told of a father who decided that Christmas was going to be different that year. He called a family conference and challenged his family to be more disciplined in the management of their time during the busy Christmas season. They had to curtail excessive spending on gifts. He talked about better relations between visiting relatives and a more congenial atmosphere around their home. He brought his speech to a crescendo with his final rally cry, “Let’s make this the BEST Christmas EVER!”

His second grade son countered the big motivational speech by noting, “But dad, I don’t see how we could ever improve on the first Christmas.”

We can’t.

That first Christmas was the best Christmas EVER! Giving the world the gift of His Son advanced God’s plan of reconciling humanity to Himself.

That’s a Christmas gift that can’t be beat.

The truth is simple: we can’t improve on the first Christmas because God already gave us His very best. The child in the manger was — and is — the answer to our deepest need, the promised Savior who would bring salvation, and the hope for every longing heart. This Christmas, let us bow in awe of the One who came to redeem us, and let our lives reflect the glory of that incomparable gift.
